Abstract

With the present boom and widespread Muslim friendly destinations, extensive research has been carried out on this concept. However, these works have not adequately addressed the issue of creativity, which is widely discussed in the current study of Western tourism literature or so-called creative tourism. This paper discusses the creativity concept embedded in the theoretical and empirical research on Muslim friendly tourism. Specifically, this paper addresses the issue of creativity in Muslim friendly tourism. To achieve this, systematic literature review and the content or document analysis were employed for data collection and the analysis. This research argued that the current components of Muslim friendly destination are yet inadequate, notably the creativity element. In conclusion, by closely examining creativity in the Muslim friendly tourism concept, this paper sheds new light on the rarely acknowledged issue of creative tourism from an Islamic perspective.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of the development of the Sukuk market to the profitability of Islamic banks in Indonesia. This study uses a quantitative method with a vector error correction model. The data used was monthly data Sukuk and profitability of Islamic banks in the years 2011 to 2018. The results of this research are in the long term Sukuk variables have a significant influence on ROA. The results obtained from the t-statistic values of variables Sukuk amounting -6.56088. The value is greater than t table, the Effect of Sukuk itself fairly small to ROA. This study is the first study that examines the influence of Sukuk on the profitability of Islamic banks using a vector error correction model.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to realize the opportunities of Halal industry exploring the driving factors of this fastest growing industry in the world. The global Halal industry as a whole is estimated to worth around USD2.3 trillion (excluding Islamic finance) a year, is now one of the fastest growing markets. Simultaneously, the global market growth is estimated to reach at an annual rate of 20 percent per annum. Such expansion of the industry is because the global halal market of 2.18 billion Muslims is no longer confined Muslims only. Similarly, the Halal industry is no longer confined to food and food-related products, but rather to include pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, health products, toiletries and medical devices as well as service sector components such as logistics, marketing, print and electronic media, packaging, branding, and financing. This paper attempts to examine the current realities of the global halal industry by observing the factors determining such increasing demand for Halal industry in addition to the opportunities that are offered from on recent global development in the market.  According to the Islamic rules and regulations the word halal is rooted from an Arabic word which means ‘permissible’ or ‘lawful’. The concept of halal is not bound to food-related items only but to multiple other aspects such as products, which can be further categorized into various groups, for instance, cosmetics, self-care, health, tourism and services. A global survey discovered that the Muslims spend on food, beverages and lifestyles amounting to USD$2 trillion in 2016. Moreover, the global Muslim market spends on travel reaching USD$169 billion in 2016 and expected to increase to USD$283 billion in 2022. Meanwhile, the Muslim average per capita income (GDP) has risen from USD$1763 to USD$6530 from 1993 to 2010. To achieve the objectives of the study, a methodology of analyzing secondary data was adopted in this paper. The sources of all secondary data and information were extensive literature review, library search, a number of different websites, online journal publications, conference proceedings, thesis, different institutional reports and publications. The findings show that there are three major factors driving the rapidly growing global halal market. First, sizable and growing Muslim population at 1.8 per cent per annum, Second, growing economic development and hence increasing purchasing power among the Muslim. Lastly, emergence of the potential halal market in non-Muslim nations and halal industry players. Nonetheless, numerous challenges confronting Halal industry players. These include the standardization of halal, lack of data, animal right, halal is not compulsory in many Muslim countries and others. As a way forward, industry players need to deepen knowledge and understanding of the Muslim market (pattern and behavior), regularly update data, and exploit untapped market niches as well as product sales and promotion. Findings and recommendations of this work will be a great resource for future researchers and scholars in relevant areas as well as policy makers to make their strategic decisions in the fields of Halal Industry.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the determinant factors that influence Islamic stocks, JII. The development of the global economy will have an impact on economic turnover in Indonesia. This condition leads to sharing prices will be affected by the global economy. Strengthening in various sectors is needed so that JII stability can be maintained. This study uses quantitative methods with the Vector Error Correction Model (VECM) analysis which can determine the factors that influence the Jakarta Islamic Index (JII) in the long run. The time-series data used is monthly data from January 2011 to December 2018. The result of this research presents the macroeconomic variables affect JII in the long run. This has implications for JII stability depending on the exchange rate of the rupiah against the US dollar, the business cycle, inflation, economic growth, and interest rates. Exchange rates and business cycles have a negative relationship with JII. Meanwhile, interest rates, CPI and IPI have a positive relationship with JII. This research shows the macroeconomic factors from the business-cycle, which can be taken to be determined. It seems that this study might be a suggestion for investors in making wise decisions in investing. Furthermore, the government plays a very important role in maintaining the stability of Islamic stocks and the factors that influence them. In addition, strengthening monetary policy is needed due to the stock movements cannot be separated from the policy.

Abstract

This study aims to determine and analyze the effect of transactional leadership and intrinsic motivation on HR performance, with job satisfaction as an intervening variable. This study used primary data obtained from questionnaires. The population in this study were 155 employees of PT. SCM Enterprises Apparel who works in the production department. The research sample was 112 respondents with the cluster random sampling as a method. The results showed that transactional leadership had a positive and significant effect on HR performance, intrinsic motivation had a positive and significant effect on HR performance, job satisfaction had a positive and significant effect on HR performance, transactional leadership had a positive and significant effect on job satisfaction, intrinsic motivation had a positive and significant effect on job satisfaction, and job satisfaction cannot mediate the effect of transactional leadership and intrinsic motivation on HR performance.

Abstract

In the search for measures to keep the society sustained, a qualitative study was conducted to explore a Tawhidic Paradigm (TP) alternative for servant leaders, building upon Greenleaf servant leadership (SL) theory. The aim is to ground an Islamic Performance Instrument (IPI) favourable to sustainable development (SD). Adopting Charmaz's (2006) constructivist Grounded Theory Method (GTM), 5 Muslim managers were identified and interviewed through purposive sampling. The coding process produced an IPI-5es principles (expertise, ethereal, emotional, ethical and empowering) essentially required by servant leaders to transform SDGs around the globe. The Islamic constructs of ‘Aqidah (Creed), Khalifa (Vicegerent) and ‘Adl (Justice) were critical in grounding these principles. Theoretically, the research outcome contributes to  body of knowledge on Tawhidic Paradigm (TP) and Islamic Servant Leadership (ISL). This paper projects leaders forming polices that synchronizes meeting SDGs with spiritual responsibilities. Practically, it offers leaders the ideal purpose of SL: servitude to the Creator – (Allah) and, also to humanity (fulfilling SDGs), as against the conventional SL theory which excludes the former. By implication, TP projects service to humanity (SDGs) as acts of worship (Ibadah). The paper was limited by fewer GTM research on Islamic SL principles for SDGs. Future study may conduct a time series analysis on servant leaders imbued with IPI-5es principles to determine SDGs success rate. The paper offers a pioneer model (IPI-5es principles) that extends conventional SL theory for SD.
